Dormitory Residents - Starting out at OBI

First weeks » The first few weeks of boarding school can be a tough adjustment. Homesickness is real, and parents miss their kids more than they anticipated. Care packages from home help immensely in the adjustment process.

Perception »  Attending OBI is an opportunity. Remind your student of the rewards of succeeding at OBI. Be positive. Encourage your student to solve problems by going to adults, and stay with the plan for your child to be here and succeed here. You may contact the Dean of Students to talk about any problems your student may have.

Responsibility and independence » Remember that we are encouraging your student to do the basics: get up on time, go to school, do their work, be involved in activities, make new friends, solve problems, stay out of trouble. Help us reinforce these proven goals.

Visits » All visits must have prior approval from the Dean of Students.

Travel » Please reference the School Calendar and Student & Parent Handbook when making your student's travel plans.

  • Students will need a prepaid gift/credit/debit card for personal travel expenses
