Resources

Oneida has a rich history of volunteer participation in our ministry. In any year, several hundred volunteers will work at Oneida. Volunteers may come for one day or many years. We count these special people among our greatest blessings.

On any given day, you will see volunteers of different ages and backgrounds working in the craft house, on new construction, on the farm, landscaping, painting, doing clerical work, cleaning, sorting through donated items or assisting in the Friendship House ministry. OBI attempts to direct each volunteer to an activity that is needed and appropriate for their skills.

Dr. W.F. Underwood (president@oneidaschool.org, 606-847-4111 ext 202) coordinates all volunteer ministries on campus. You must talk with him if you are interested in volunteering. In recent years, we have sometimes had more volunteers desiring to come some weeks than we could use at that time, so advance planning is very important.

Some important facts to remember if you are a potential volunteer.

  • Volunteer housing is very limited during the school year.
  • OBI maintains a large campground for campers. Campers on Mission has frequently used OBI as a project site.
  • We realize groups like to work together, but this is not always possible. Please be flexible.
  • Larger projects are usually available in the summer months, but volunteers are needed year round.
  • Please inventory the skills in your your group before coming to campus. It is sometimes frustrating to try and find the right project if your group is not aware of what you can do!
  • We cannot provide child care or special projects for children and youth.

Are you a possible long term volunteer? Some of our best teachers and workers are volunteers. These persons live in school housing and receive other employee benefits. Be sure and ask about this possibility if you are looking for a meaningful ministry in retirement.
