Dorm Life

OBI has two dormitories for boys and one for girls. Each air-conditioned dorm is supervised 24 hours a day by houseparents who are assisted by hall monitors on each floor. Houseparents are stationed throughout the dorms and in the dorm office where students have access to telephones, microwaves, television, and basic supply needs. The dorm office is also where students will pick up their mail and packages.

There are generally three students to a room, and each floor has state-of-the-art bathrooms. All dorm students have access to full laundry facilities and are responsible for cleaning their dorm room each day.

The healthcare coordinator is available each day to manage student illnesses, injuries, and medications. Dorm students not well enough to attend school are put on bedrest until they recover. The student coordinator schedules and transports students to medical appointments, and an EMT is on call for medical emergencies.

When the dorms are open our cafeteria serves three meals a day, seven days a week. Meals are served buffet style, and while students are limited to taking one serving per trip, they are allowed to return for more. The campus Grill is open in the afternoons Monday through Saturday where students may purchase fast food items and socialize with friends. The Carnahan store and student bank are open Monday through Friday for dorm students to withdraw their daily spending money and purchase snacks or basic dorm supplies.

In addition to weeknight studyhall, the students have free-time each evening and on weekend afternoons when students may participate in a variety of recreational activities. These may include open gym, billiards, swimming, weight room, sporting events, outdoor activities and games. There is an extra hour of free-time Monday through Thursday for those students on the honor roll and not required to attend evening studyhall.

Bedcheck for dormitory students is at 10:00 PM on school nights and at 11:00 PM on weekends.
